Hello! Just finished assembling my Moreplay. Right off the park, this is an awesome preamp. It equals my upgraded (caps and resistors) Hagerman Clarinet. I want to upgrade the 2.2uf caps with a botique caps. I am choosing between 250 volts and 600 volts rating. Your thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks!

The startup voltage of that cap is nearly 400v, so unless you know the cap to have a surge voltage rating of 375v or greater, I'd say use a 400v or greater cap.

Hi Paul, Would this be a cap that would work and what type of improvement would you expect?

That will not work; it is ten times less capacitance than the original.

I've done a lot of cap rolling over the years (coupling, speakers, etc.), including my Moreplay

If you don't want to spend a lot, either these:

or these:

These are "OK" and rather hi fi sounding (and the evo silver/gold/oil will be even more so in my experience):

These I found comparable, kind of lean and hi fi sounding, almost clinical:

I really disliked Jupiter HT. Waste of money.

These are what I stuck with. They're big and heavy but I don't so much so as to cause a long term problem:

Here is one perspective of many different caps:

Like all of this audiofoolery, one user's boon is another one's bane. As I've often read here, roll your own and tell us how it is  :-*.

So many caps. So little time.

Thank you all for the input.

I forgot about the Odams. Truthfully, just my opinion, but I tried Odams and didn't care for them. I also tried them on the critical series tweeter position of my speakers and didn't care for them there, either. They're OK -- but should be amazing for the $$$ (such are the economics of low-volume manufacturing and diminishing returns in high end audio).

Well, I bit the bullet and did my first ever cap upgrade. Wound up with Jantzen caps. I'm really happy so far. They've only been in for about 10 hours of playing time so I don't think they're fully broken in. Immediate difference is more detail, but not clinical. The Moreplay has made a huge difference in my second system. It definitely punches way above it's weight class.

Can I use Miniature DPDT Toggle Switch 3 Position ON-OFF-ON Rated 6 Amps @ 125VAC to choose between 2 pairs of 2.2uf coupling caps? I’m thinking doing this way will save me time desoldering and soldering.

I would not recommend putting coupling caps on a switch.
