Mainline / Right channel has no output in high impedance mode
« Last post by N72826 on Today at 07:55:17 AM »
Just finished the final voltage check, everything was solid so I did a listening test and found I have no output in the right channel when high impedance is selected.

I know the recommended advice would be to reheat every joint but in the hopes of not having to do every single one, is there somewhere I should start first given that this issue only affects the high impedance mode?

I would definitely recommend against shipping that.  I do believe that the cost and lead time on the Magnequest line output transformer was just enough to prevent the Soul Sister from going into production, but that was well before my time.

I don't see anything particularly concerning with these.

Hello,

I'm conducting the final voltage check and some of them are off.

+275vDC on the Power Supply Board: 266V / expected: 275V
+6.3vDC on the Power Supply Board: 58.5V / expected: 55-65V
-6.3vDC on the Power Supply Board:  52.3V / expected: 50-60V
IA on the A side C4 S Board: 266V / expected: 275V
IA on the B side C4 S Board: 265V / expected: 275V
Breg Regulator Board (both sides): 216V / expected: 220V
-reg Regulator Board (both sides): 0V 0V / expected: 0V
Kreg Regulator Board (both sides): 10.09V 9.76V / expected: 8-12V

I've a friend who has been using a soul sister preamp for quite some time and is finally looking to try something different. He knows I'm a bottlehead fan and asked me to look into it. I couldn't find much about this - other than it was mostly offered as a plan and not commercialized, maybe due to transformer cost. I've shared a few photos from the pre and was wondering if anyone here would be interested in sharing some thoughts or advice I can pass along as they are planning to list it on the used market.

Bottlehead DAC / Re: Is the Bottlehead DAC repairable?
« Last post by Paul Birkeland on Today at 05:41:23 AM »
Is it just not powering on?  There are some transistors I can replace on the incoming power supply board and a small modification I can do to keep those devices happier.  This issue popped up mostly on DACs without the Bottlebatt power supply.

General Discussion / OT - latest distraction

A few months ago I was invited to assist in the installation of a newly rebuilt engine in a friend's 1937 Rolls Royce 25/30 limousine. Yesterday was the big reward, a first ride around the neighborhood. Glorious.

Not that I have just been playing. We are very close to releasing the new isolation platform and I have been getting the studio cleaned up for our Pipette and Subette demo on June 15th. PB has been chipping away at the Moreplay upgrade manual too.

BeePre / Re: Shushing Sound from preamp

i cleaned them with deoxit
I would replace the sockets immediately and definitely do not do that again.

This also only happens  when I listen to LP's
This would indicate that the issue is happening before the BeePre.

BeePre / Re: Resistance Check on 52
« Last post by Paul Birkeland on Today at 04:50:45 AM »
If you can measure the 330 ohm resistor while it's mounted in the kit and it measures correctly, then try to measure that resistance across the terminals it's mounted to.  Does that resistance appear at those terminals?  Now try this for each of the 130 ohm resistors.  At some point, you will get a resistance reading on a resistor that doesn't agree with the resistance reading between the two terminals it's mounted to, and that's an indication of a soldering issue or a broken lead.

Could I see a complete overhead shot of your build?  There are some wires in your photo that don't seem like they should be there, but I can see where they are coming from or where they are going.

It is completely possible that the issue you're experiencing is related to something else going on in the build.  How are your DC voltages?  Are they still correct?
