Mainline / Almost there - KREG Voltage issues.
« Last post by Art Andrews on Today at 12:18:46 PM »
I believe I have passed every check test until the very last one. According to the manual, the KREG Regulator Board voltage should be 8-12V mine are 3.6 and 4.11.

I also have only 4 of the LEDs working (and they are so dim you can only see them with the lights out). Interestingly, because the boards are flipped, it is the LEDs on the same side of each, which I feel should be telling me something.

I have gone back over the solders and the wiring. Maybe I am repeatedly missing something, but I can't tell what is wrong or where to go from here.

You have my sincere sympathy. I also wrestle with tinnitus.

There seems to be a consensus that most ENT doctors and audiologists do not do a good job helping people with their tinnitus. You really need to find an audiologist who specializes in tinnitus treatments. Tinnitus usually can’t be cured but there are treatments that can help many people. Here are some of the useful resources I’ve found.

The health care provider link on the American Tinnitus Association website is particularly useful for finding providers with an interest in treating people with tinnitus:

Hope this helps.

Eros Phono / Re: 6DJ8 vs. 6922?

I just picked up an Amperex Bugle Boy 6DJ8 that didn't break the bank to try out.
I also just installed the Sowter SUT's so I'll get a sense of how the MC/SUT situation sounds and then add the Amperex to the mix.
I've also got the cord kit ready to assemble.
So many options for improving an already great product.
Thanks for sharing your experience.

Is there anything more I could try? I do not know what else I could do and would appreciate any input.

Crack / Recommended EQ settings for Crack & HD-650?

Built the Crack electronics today.  Adding Speedball tomorrow.

Wondering if there any any EQ recommendations for its uses with specific headphones, like the HD-650.

I switched over to a premium 6DJ8 and was very surprised at how much better it was.  I believe the manufacturer was Telefunken.

The presentation was much clearer.  It provided a much better soundstage, better delineation of instruments, it is more musical and really fun to listen to.  It raised my system to a new level.  I would say if you do one thing on your Eros buy a top notch 6DJ8.

Good luck and happy listening.

That's horrible.  I've suffered from moderate tinnitus most of my life, but what you describe sounds unimaginable even to me.  I am so sorry.  I know from personal experience how devastating it is to go to an ENT and have him or her offer only what I call the "physician's shrug."

You've probably already done this but, if not, seek out the various tinnitus user forums on the web.  You'll find not just sympathy but empathy, a community that won't make you feel so alone.

It's not CAT5, it's a single pair - solid core STP cable. Contact Eileen at [email protected] on Monday and she can fix you up with more.

You probably could just use any CAT5 ethernet cable, if you have some laying around...

Thanks, everyone, for your responses. It‘s been almost eight weeks now, and no relief. I saw an ENT, who prescribed prednisone for a week. I‘m tapering off now. No change. If anything, it‘s worse. I tried listening to a record yesterday, at low to moderate volume. It hurt. And afterwards the ringing increased. If it goes on like this, it will definitely be a curse of sorts. There‘s certainly no point in having nice-sounding equipment if I can‘t appreciate it, let alone turn it on. I‘m troubled by how quickly this happened, and how dramatic the change. If this is the new normal, my life will have to change dramatically—and in a bad way.
