If you use the Alps pot, Parts Express seems to have the best price.  You'll also want to snag a PC board off eBay for mounting.  Do not solder any wires directly to those pins!  Audio Note and TKD make pots with solder lugs if you'd prefer to go in that direction.

You may just need to crimp the unsoldered ends of those resistors down a little bit may help pull that reading into spec.

Those voltages suggest that that C4S board should be working, so I'd be looking for missing jumpers or a broken wire that's not allowing the regulator to pull things down properly.

General Discussion / Re: Tinnitus
« Last post by AG on Yesterday at 06:39:37 AM »
Until recently, I had no issues with my hearing. Since my late 20s I’ve been careful to wear earplugs to loud concerts, and I never turn up the music so loud that it is even close to uncomfortable.

But I went to a concert five weeks ago that seems to have changed everything. It was a concert of classical Indian music, so I assumed (wrongly) that it wouldn’t be amplified. And when I saw there was amplification, I figured it wouldn’t be an issue, because, well, it’s Indian classical music! How loud can it get? Not that loud, actually, but there was something about the space and the PA system that really hurt my ears. A piercing hurt. Strangely, my wife and son, the former of whom is usually very sensitive to loud music, didn’t have the same reaction I did.

Which is a ringing in both ears. I assumed it would stop after a day or two. It’s been five weeks and no letup. I saw an audiologist today who basically said it would be permanent. I’m in mourning. I can no longer enjoy music, which has to compete with the ringing, and if it’s turned up even slightly above normal listening levels, hurts my ears and causes a kind of extra overtone ring.

I don’t know what to do. I’m seeing an ENT soon, but at this stage I’m both frustrated, mad, and very very sad. How could one concert lead to this, a concert that clearly didn’t both anyone else? Does this mean the time, money, and care I put into my audio system is now for nought?

I’m posting here I guess for some kind of support. I doubt I’m alone. How have you Bottleheaders dealt with hearing loss, damage, tinnitus, etc? Is there any hope?
I dont know exactly what to tall you, but I been dealing with tinnitus on both ear as earliest I remember, probably born with that. sometimes bother sometime doesnt, the pitch increase out of nowhere and disappeard. during my teenager days I was with my music to everywhere, even at night I was palying it very low (white noise) in a point I get used to and I was one ofthe good guys to detect abnormal noises in diesel motors and heavy machinery, then I move to printing industry and my ear where extreamly welcome due my auditive presicion. Now I am in my early 50's probably with some earing lost my tinnitus still there and little worst, sometimes at night when the frecuency change drastically meditating help me to calm the idea, because this is a sound your brain create. is not easy and I think I have the most friendly one, becaue my aunt she said that she is suffering on one ear like a tv static.
doctor told me there is no solution, I still taking care of my ears and live with it, again not easy but its part of me after all.

patient.
Andre.

Pipette Speaker / Re: New Pipette Build
« Last post by benzxc on Yesterday at 03:39:23 AM »
So after a few days of listening I decided that my OB bass driver was not a good match with the Pipettes (the bass driver being 15") and it was hard to integrate them.  I took the bass driver out of the system and soon realized that I did not really miss the lack of bass on the Pipettes, they sound quite nice by themselves. Perhaps they have been broken in?

Obviously with certain types of music, I notice the lack of bass a bit more than others, so I ordered a Subette and the Sublime. Cannot wait until they ship and arrive. Hopefully they integrate with the Pipettes better than my OB bass driver.

I don't have the Orcas anymore (sold them years ago) so I am going on memory, but the more I listen to the Pipettes, the less I find them similar with the Orcas. I am terrible at describing sound and how I hear sound but Pipettes have more delicate high frequencies and, just by themselves, I think the Pipettes have better bass... Again, this is all from memory but I can quite confidently say I like the Pipettes much more than the Orcas, which I sold. I have no intention of selling the Pipettes.

Stereomour II / Re: Stereomour II mods

It's taken forever, but I have finally finished the Claro Walnut bases for the Stereomour and Moreplay. It was a painstaking process because I am terrible at mitering and this was an amazing piece of wood that I didn't want to F-up (required building a custom jig to do it properly). I wanted to book-match and grain wrap the bases and to try a french polish. It took somewhere between 30 and 40 coats of shellac, but I really wanted to do justice to the spectacular grain.

Over the past few months I have fully burned in both the original Psvane tubes (good) and a pair of matched NOS RCA Black plates (amazing), and damn! The Moreplay & Stereomour can really sing!

Up next, and I'm a bit afraid, because the Stereomour already sounds perfect, the Shunt Regulator upgrade and DC filament supply.

At some point I will talk about the output impedance switching I built in to my Stereomour, it's really interesting. I use it a lot more than I ever expected.
